Dahlia Genova – Dahlia decorative
Dahlia Genova is a decorative dahlia with large, fully double flowers and a classic appearance. This type of dahlia is known for its abundant flowering and strong growth, allowing Genova to quickly become a focal point in the summer garden.
The flowers are carried on sturdy stems and perform well in borders, providing long-lasting colour and structure. Thanks to its full flower form, Genova is also highly valued as a cut flower, adding volume and a timeless look to floral arrangements.
Caring for dahlias - how to achieve the best results
Dahlias are strong summer-flowering plants that will bloom generously for many months when given the right care. Plant the tubers from April to May, once the risk of night frost has passed, in a sunny position with well-drained, fertile soil. The more sun they receive, the more abundant the flowering.
Plant the tubers at a depth of approximately 10-15 cm, with the growing point facing upwards. Allow sufficient spacing between tubers so the plants can develop properly. When growing dahlias in containers, good drainage is essential to prevent excess moisture.
Water dahlias regularly during the growing season, particularly in dry weather. Avoid waterlogged soil, as overly wet conditions can lead to rot. For strong growth and prolonged flowering, feeding during the season with a suitable flowering fertiliser is recommended.
Removing spent flowers regularly encourages the plant to produce new buds, extending the flowering period well into autumn. Dahlias typically flower from July until the first frost.
Dahlias are not frost hardy. After the first frost, the tubers can be lifted, cleaned and stored frost-free in a cool, dry place. They can be replanted the following spring, allowing you to enjoy the same plants year after year.
