Lily of the Valley (Convallaria), a delicate beautiful little perennial
The lovely fragrant Lily of the Valley is a delicate and beautiful little perennial that requires little care and is great for naturalization in the garden. The Lily of the Valley looks absolutely stunning planted between evergreens, like box hedges, as well as in woodland gardens. The broad stand-up leaves of the Lily of the Valley are a lovely fresh green colour, almost hiding strings of tiny white bell shaped little flowers.
Lily of the Valley – a shade lover and excellent ground cover plant
You can plant Lily of the Valley rhizomes from January to December, they bloom in May. Lily of the Valley flowers don’t last too long, but their foliage provides excellent ground cover all year round. Lily of the Valley plants thrive in the shade, which is another reason why they’re so popular as a ground cover. They are also generally not bothered by pests, as every part of this little plant is toxic.
