Planting Instructions Agapanthus umbellatus ‘White’ – Rhizome
The Agapanthus is supplied as a rhizome, without a pot or potting soil.
- Planting time: Preferably plant the rhizomes from March to May, once the risk of severe frost has passed.
- Location: Choose a warm, sunny spot. Agapanthus produces the most abundant flowers with plenty of sunlight.
- Soil: Use fertile, well-draining soil. Avoid standing water around the roots.
- Planting: Dig a spacious planting hole and place the rhizome horizontally or with the growing points facing upwards. Cover it with approximately 3–5 cm of soil.
- Planting distance: Keep approximately 30–40 cm between the plants.
- Watering: Water thoroughly after planting so that the soil settles well around the rhizome. Afterwards, keep the soil slightly moist, but avoid keeping it waterlogged.
- After planting: Once the plant starts to sprout, you can water it regularly during the growing season and optionally apply some plant fertiliser.
- Winter: Agapanthus is not completely winter-hardy. Protect the plant in winter with a thick layer of leaves or other protective material. When grown in a pot, frost-free overwintering is recommended.
Delivery
This product is supplied as bare-root stock. This means you will receive the plant without a pot or potting soil, but with a healthy and well-developed root system. At first, the bare-root plant may look small and simple. This is completely normal. After planting, the plant will develop new roots and leaves and grow into a strong, healthy plant.
A major advantage of bare-root plants is that they can be supplied in a compact and lightweight form and can quickly adapt to their new location after planting.
