Tulipa polychroma – Botanical Tulip
Tulipa polychroma is a charming botanical tulip with bright white flowers and a warm yellow centre. This low-growing tulip flowers early in spring and brings a natural, understated look to the garden. Because each stem often carries several flowers, the display feels surprisingly full despite its compact size.
The star-shaped blooms open wide in sunny weather, revealing the vivid yellow heart of the flower. Tulipa polychroma is also lightly scented, adding extra character to borders and containers.
Perfect for naturalising
This botanical tulip is particularly well suited for naturalising. In the right spot, the bulbs return year after year and gradually spread, creating a relaxed and natural spring display over time.
With a height of around 15 cm, Tulipa polychroma works beautifully in rock gardens, along borders, in lawns and in patio pots or containers.
Position and care
Plant the bulbs between September and December in well-drained soil. A sunny or lightly shaded position gives the best flowering results. Like many botanical tulips, this variety dislikes wet soil during winter.

A botanical tulip with a natural look
Botanical tulips differ from many modern large-flowered tulips thanks to their compact growth and reliable character. They fit naturally into informal planting schemes and combine beautifully with other early spring flowers such as crocuses and grape hyacinths.
With its white petals, yellow centre and delicate fragrance, Tulipa polychroma is a lovely spring-flowering bulb for both borders and containers.
